Our Origins

UCC Judo Club was formed in early 1970’s where it quickly grew in size under the leadership of Cork City Judo’s Club Jim Crockett for a few years. The Club was well known for it’s competitiveness winning numerous medals and trophies in competitions across Ireland.

In later years, the Club declined before the Club was disbanded in 2011.

In 2012, the Club was reformed slowly by five students who taught themselves a year before David Holmes approached to coach the Club in 2013. Since then the Club has grown in size and has quickly grown to the largest college Judo Club in Ireland.

In 2015, we hosted the Judo Intervarsities where we came Second and Third in the Men’s Team and Second in the Women’s Team. We also won the ‘Most Improved Club of the Year’ award from the Club Executive.
