Judo

Welcome to UCC Judo, we're based in the Mardyke Arena and cater for beginners through to advanced.

About Us

Judo is a grappling martial art and Olympic sport, the aim of which is to throw your opponent onto their back, pin them for twenty seconds or submit them by either applying a joint lock or choke. Judo greatly improves physical fitness, strength, flexibility, and coordination, as well as teaching discipline and relieving stress. Judo is great for anyone looking to get fit, learn self-defence or just have fun.

UCC Judo Club was formed in early 1970’s where it quickly grew in size under the leadership of Cork City Judo’s Club Jim Crockett for a few years. The Club was well known for its competitiveness winning numerous medals and trophies in competitions across Ireland.

In later years, the Club declined before the Club was disbanded in 2011.

In 2012, the Club was reformed slowly by five students who taught themselves a year before David Holmes approached to coach the Club in 2013. Since then, the Club has grown and has quickly grown to the largest college Judo Club in Ireland.

There have been a lot of success over recent years at the Judo Intervarsity's. We also won the ‘Most Improved Club of the Year’ award from the Club Executive.

The club competes in national competitions and the annual intervarsity event
