What you might not know is we were the largest club in the competition.  The Club performed spectacularly across the board with 4 golds won byTonfo Cedrick, Cara Nies, Brian Dowling and Jamie O’Donoghue, 4 silver won by Colm O’Brien, Luke Hickey, Jim Malone, Tonfo Cedrick and 11 bronze  won by Rosemine Acbang, Ciara Gildea, Katie O’Donovan x2, Aobh O’Shea, Zoe Newsome-McDonnel, Erin Brightwood, Cara Nies, Raphael Martins, Rory Hayes, Brian Dowling

The competition had 86 competitors with many entering two to three categories on the day with most pool groups containing between 5-15 judoka battling for the coveted Gold medals. Special shout out to all our members who enjoyed their first competition and especially Brian Dowling who came First in the U81kg by beating two black belts along with others.

There were also very strong successes in the team events. In the Men’s Event, UCC A came second while UCC B came third both losing out to NUIG A who claimed the trophy for the second year in a row. Similarly in the Women’s Team Event, UCC A also came second and UCC B third while ITT claimed the trophy for the first time in history.

In other news, Adam Corcoran from NUIM claimed Best Male on the day for winning -73kg and Open without a loss and Emma Fitzgerald from ITT received Best Female. Additionally Darren Friel from NUIG received Throw of the Day for a spectacular Uchi Mata while our own Tim Kelly won the Charlie Hegarty Spirit of Judo Award.

Lastly, we would like to thank all the table personnel, the referees, Colm O’Riordan and David Holmes for their support and help in running the competition as smoothly as possible.
